Writing Mentoring

Whether you call them coaching, consulting, or mentoring, these services are designed to help you clear a creative hurdle, gain some inspiration or clarity, or make real progress on a project. (If you are interested in my editing services, please click here.)

Choose a single mentoring session or a 3-month writing apprenticeship.

Mentoring Sessions

Individual mentoring sessions are an effective way to get quality feedback on a few pages of writing or spend an hour chatting about your writing and creative life. During these sessions you will receive support and resources to help you address your creative challenges or make progress on a specific writing project. As I do in all of my services, I take a kind and constructive approach to mentoring. I will always give you honest input, and I will always do it with respect.

Choose one of the single mentoring session options below for $125:

  • One-hour mentoring call to discuss any aspect of the writing life (no document review included)
    -OR-
  • Written feedback on one piece of writing up to 1,500 words (about 6 double-spaced pages)

To schedule a mentoring call or feedback, please email me: jennifer{at}thewordcellar{dot}com.

Writing Apprenticeships

These three-month writing apprenticeships will help you grow in every aspect of your writing life. You'll embrace your writing dreams, set monthly writing goals, and write your way into the heart of them. I'll give you constructive, kind, and useful feedback on your work, along with personalized support through regular pone and email conversations.

Here's an overview of what you'll receive each month as an apprentice:

**In-depth feedback on your writing (designed to help you uncover and achieve your creative vision);

**One 60-minute mentoring conversation; and

**Email support to answer your questions and to provide you with resources, inspiration, and encouragement.

I've structured these apprenticeships to draw on everything I've learned throughout 20 years as a professional writer and during the amazing experience of working with mentors toward my MFA in creative writing (from Vermont College of Fine Arts). Every writer's journey is unique, and only you can write what you're called to write. But you don't have to go it alone. I love sharing what I've learned about the craft of writing, about ways to honor and make the most of your individual writing process, and about the resources that can support and inspire you along the way.

This apprenticeship program addresses these key components of your writing life:

  • Writing: To have a writing life, you must write. You'll name and embrace your writing dreams and set monthly goals to help you stay focused and motivated.
  • Feedback: Strengthen your writing by sharing it for feedback. Each month you'll submit your pages* to me, and I'll give you in-depth, written feedback on what's working well and what's not working as well, plus suggestions for how to strengthen the work. Don't fear the feedback! I specialize in giving honest, thorough feedback with kindness and clarity. This process is designed to empower and enliven you and your writing. (*How many pages will you submit each month? It depends. For details, see the apprenticeship levels below.)
  • Support: You don't have to go it alone. Balance out the solitary nature of writing with supportive mentoring conversations and email support.
     >Conversations: When you spend so much time alone with yourself and the page, it's nice to talk to someone else who "gets it." Each month we'll have a one-hour conversation to talk about your writing, my feedback, what you've been reading, and what you're experiencing in your creative life.
     >Email support: I'll be available by email throughout the month if you have questions or need some encouragement to keep you motivated and engaged in your writing.
